PINOY is a slang term that caught on with the Florante song “Akoy isang Pinoy”("I am a Pinoy") that became
mainstream with Filipino culture (made by appending y to Fili-pino) to denote their country of origin and background.

KABAYAN is the proper way to address fellow Filipinos (meaning “coming from the the same country", or “fellow countryman”).

NOYPI is a colloquial variation of Pinoy (the syllables reversed).

FLIP was considered derogatory, though this is debatable. Folk etymology claims that it was coined by American soldiers from World War II to mean “Fucking Little Island Person”, but its true origin is in dispute. North American Filipinos have loosely used FLIP to describe their background. A plausible origin of the term is that it is a shortening of the word Filipino, and it sounds distinctive and blends with popular culture.

FOB was originally used by Americans to mean "Fresh off the Boat." Commonly used as an insult. But in recent times, it describes a Filipino background. Like FLIP, it's considered to be insulting, but Filipinos take it to be something of pride. FOB refers to having one of the Filipino accents, usually Tagalog accent. Filipino's take FOB and mean it as "Filipino on Vacation" where in Tagalog it would be pronounced "Filipino on Bakasyon" or something of the sort. It also means newcomer, or someone who is "Fresh" meaning they have the spirit of the native Pinoy in them still.

World biggest flag
Six hundred people unfurled the biggest Philippine flag inside the Baguio Athletic Bowl. The 180 meters x 92 meters Philippine flag was displayed almost as the same time as the world's biggest flag, the Israeli flag, was also unfurled at Gaza strip in Israel. Grace Galindez Gupana, the maker of the two flags, decided to attend the Israeli unfurling but in her message to the almost 5,000 government employees and students in the Athletic Bowl, she said that the simultaneous unfurling is symbolic because the Gaza Strip is beset with conflicts and the Philippines is out to help bring in the peace. The Philippine flag weighed 3.8 tons and cost almost P30 million. The Israeli flag, first unfurled in 2006 in Masada, Israel, measured 660 meters by 100 meters and weighed 5.2 tons. pinoy ka ba? ang tanong sakin ng istambay sa may dakota nung mag tanong ako sa kanya kung saan banda ang harrizon plaza.

pinoy ka ba sir? ang tanong sakin ng babae sa recto ng mag pagawa ako sa kanya ng diploma at sertipiko ng pagka abugado.

bakit kaba nakikialam eh hindi ka naman pinoy! ang sabi sakin ng dalawang nagaaway na lasing na inawat sa kanto.

para sa pinoy lang yun sir! ang sabi sakin nung tanungin ko kung bakit di ako di ako hinanapan ng pulis record o sang-katerbang I.D

ay pinoy ka ba? ang tanong sakin nung tagalogin ko ang babaeng resepsyonista na tanaging ako lang ang pinansin.

pinoy ka ba? ang nasabi ng ale nung tumayo ako sa upuan ko at alukin sya na pumalit sa aking puwesto.

san ka ba lumaki pinoy ka ba? ang sabi ng lalaki nung hindi ko maintidihan ang ibig-sabihin ng pampadulas nung kumuha ako ng lisensya.

o pinoy ka ba? ang reaksyon sakin nung mamang sumingit sa pila ng NFA na bigas.

pinoy ka ba mama? ang gulat na tanong sakin nang mga bata. pagkatapos ko silang sawayin dahil pinag mumura ako "namo" ang sabi ng musmos na walang karsusilyo.

lahat sila ay tinanong ko ano ba ang pinoy?

lahat sila isa lang ang sagot.
